Is THIS the Year You're Going to Get Serious??
Towards the end of every year, businesses and organizations begin analyzing how they've done, where they stand, and how they're lining up against their goals. If your fiscal year doesn't align with the calendar year, you may only be at the halfway point, but December and January naturally bring about reflection and a refreshing of goals and energy.
Do you review the same tired statistics every year?
Wonder why your staff turnover stays high?
Wonder why you're collectively scrambling to barely meet those quarterly and annual goals?
Wonder why everyone seems tired and burned out?
Wonder why it never seems to change???
Organizational culture, at nonprofits especially but also at some startups and associations, can be so toxic that it's actively undermining your efforts. Unhappy, overworked staff can't see beyond the end of every workday, so they're not working strategically towards monthly, quarterly, and annual goals. HOW is that benefiting anyone? It certainly isn't helping to move your organization forward. I can't tell you the number of times when I'm offering a workshop or course I hear, "Oh, I just can't take off 2 hours, 4 hours, etc. to take that course." If your staff can't spare a couple of hours to learn about fundamental job skills, industry best practices, and updated laws and/or regulations, that is a huge red flag. Reviewing not only your numbers and bottom line but also your staff's work practices and overall organization health is VITAL to propelling your organization forward into the next phase of growth and development. It's worth it to take the time to do so.
In fact, you can't afford not to!
